The opening of borders and nightlife, and the return of the MWC brought more optimism in the Spanish press

Although the issue of coronavirus and vaccination is still very present in the media, there is more and more space for other topics of social interest, such as Pride 2021, the Olympic Games and Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest technological event. News related to the economic recovery and future growth forecasts remain in the media spotlight.

As for the media situation, the news is not so optimistic. Spanish magazines have lost 60% of their income and readers in just twelve years. In 2021, two of the main publishing groups in Spain, Hearst (Cosmopolitan, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, etc.) and Condé Nast (CN Traveller, Glamour or Vogue), have carried out their own furloughs, along with Unidad Editorial (El Mundo, Expansión and Marca) which has announced it will reduce its workforce by 98 people.
