Getting to know Raquel Meca

As part of our Getting to Know (GTK) series where journalists, clients and team members share memories, ideas, experiences, today it’s the turn of Raquel Meca Garrido, Public Relations and Communication Manager at Canela’s client Babbel.

Where were you born? Manresa (Barcelona).

Describe yourself in 3 words: Extroverted, perseverant and emotional.

What are you used to do at the following times?

7:00: If nothing and nobody prevents me, sleep ?

14:00: I’m going back to the office after lunch (German time) or take a walk around the center of Berlin.

20:00: It depends on the day, sometimes I am doing yoga or sport, sometimes with friends drinking a glass of wine, cooking or watching movies with my boyfriend or reading on the sofa with a warm cup of tea.

Which city defines you? My little heart has two B’s: Barcelona (where I lived my whole student life) and Berlin (where I have developed almost my entire professional career).

The last book you read: I would love to say The Twisted lines of God because I loved that book but in fact it was The Daughter of the Watchmaker by Kate Morton, I am in love with her books although this one seemed to be the worst… Usually I love the mysteries and if they are involved in a historical halo even more. I’m also a fan of Dolores Redondo, Julia Navarro, etc.

What would you cook for your guests? Some homemade pizzas or tortilla! Although what I do best is cakes and if it is the DDR recipe even better: my specialty is the Sächsischer Quarkkuchen and the cheesecake.

Favourite app: Easy question, Babbel.

One Instagram account you like: I’m a bit vintage, I do not have an Instagram.

The celebrity that inspires you most:  Famous people don’t inspire me too much … It inspires me to read, travel, discover different cultures and know the history behind each person. Berlin is the ideal city for it. But above all, my great inspiration is my mother!

What advice would you give your 25 year-old self? Slow down… Don’t think that at 30 you must have “everything” controlled (at both personal and professional level), you may never have everything under control… and that’s the spice of life! I would also recommend to myself that a professional career is not a sprint but a marathon.

Frustrated profession: Writer, better late than never.

Your preferred motto: Fight ALWAYS for what you want and… If life gives you lemons, take out salt and tequila!
