Canela is turning 15 and has lots to celebrate

It’s been 15 years since Deborah Gray founded Canela in a small office in Barcelona. In spite of the situation which we find ourselves in we are still determined to celebrate. On our fifteenth anniversary, we are proud to say that we are a benchmark for a consolidated independent agency in Iberia whose work is recognised both with awards and rankings in the sector.

We all know that cake and candles are a must in every anniversary celebration. So given that we can’t meet in person to celebrate, we are moving our celebrations to a virtual space where we can still celebrate it together. What have we achieved in all these years?

When celebrating an important anniversary it is inevitable that we go back to our beginnings. Canela began in 2006 in a small office in Barcelona. Just two years later we opened our offices in Madrid and in 2016 we expanded to Portugal with a new headquarters in Lisbon. Thanks to this, we can now offer clients strategies that cover the entire Iberian market.

In addition to press office services and strategic consulting, digitization and changes in the sector in recent years have led us to specialize also in social media management, influencer marketing, digital content creation and graphic design. All this has allowed us to work for a wide variety of national and international clients, such as Adyen, Cooltra, the European Commission, Dyson, Palo Alto Networks, Sendcloud, Sonrisas de Bombay, Sony and Vivid Money, among many others.

In terms of awards and recognitions in the sector, the most recent has been our nomination in the 2020 Provoke ranking as one of the five best agencies to work for in EMEA, in which we have been finalists on four different occasions so far. Our campaigns have also been nominated in different categories of the international SABRE Awards every year since 2009. In 2019 we were chosen as Best Communication Agency by PR Noticias and also finalists in the PRovoke ranking of the Fastest Growing Agencies.

Now that we’ve been through our past, it’s time to set new goals for the future. The pandemic has undoubtedly been a challenge at all levels, but it has also made us more flexible and creative than ever, and has led us to explore new opportunities. Although we remain focussed on our core areas of expertise, B2B, Lifestyle and Consumer Tech, we have also opened ourselves up to disruptive sectors, such as gaming or applications, which we will continue to explore in the coming years.

Without any doubt, Canela is not the same as it was 15 years ago, but everything we’ve achieved has been the result of great teamwork and, of course, the dedication and trust of our collaborators and clients. For that reason we wanted to celebrate this anniversary with all those who have accompanied us on the way and have made it possible for us to keep evolving.
