One of the favourite sections of our blog is back, “Getting to know the Canela team”, in which we share memories, ideas, experiences and anecdotes about this crazy world of communication. Today it’s the turn of our Director in Canela’s Barcelona office, Alba Calvet.
Getting to know
Alba Calvet
Name and surname: Alba Calvet Sabala
Office: Barcelona
Clients you have worked with: I’ll mention only a few… Because it’s been years! HTC, Western Digital, Lenovo, Hitachi Data Systems, Rakuten, Wonderbox, Clínica Liberty, FreedomPop, Game Point Center…
How many years of work experience have you had after university? 12 years
You are native from… I’m from a small town. Although I’ve been living in Barcelona for 15 years, I still have my roots very firmly implanted in Central Catalunya.
Can you describe yourself in three words? Organized, empathetic and perfectionist.
How do you see the present and the future of communication?
Consumers are increasingly more hyper connected, super informed and more responsible for and sensitive to their environment, they want to live interesting experiences and are looking for entertainment and comfort overall… So basically, communication will have to adapt to this new paradigm.
Any funny anecdotes you want to tell us about this crazy world of communication?
Having to arrange interviews with heads of companies who sometimes behave more like rock stars than CEOs, having your clients confuse your consulting services with the job of a secretary– and whole host of other things that are better to be left unsaid.
Are you active in social media? What is your favorite platform?
Quite a lot. The ones I use the most are Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and Spotify, if we count it as a social network. But without any doubt I choose Instagram, it’s the platform I spend most hours at being active. I like it for two reasons, I love photography, I use it a lot when travelling, and the app works very well and fast and now that they have added Stories, it is even more engaging. Although it can get a bit much.
If you didn’t work in the world of communication, what other sector would you be interested in?
Something related to design; I have an aesthetic sense (I think…) haha
What do you do when you’re not at Canela?
Travel, yoga, go to concerts, eat “well” or go for beer with friends and family…
Who has inspired you in your life?
Honestly, I don’t really have a guru. I’m inspired by very different people, from Whitney Houston to Ada Colau. Ideally women, for sure 😉
Regarding our profession, I´m quite a big fan of Carles Capdevila, he seems like a really good communicator to me.
What is you life motto?
I don’t have a life motto that accompanies me, but that´s why me iPhone is always by my side. Haha, now seriously, I think my motto would be that if you surround yourself with good people, you’ll get it right!
