To celebrate the fact that Canela Portugal is hosting the ECCO International PR Network in Lisbon on the 11th – 13th May, travel and lifestyle blogger and native Lisbonite Tiago Di Costa Miranda has drawn up a list of the top 10 places to visit in the city this Spring.
Lisbon’s top 10 places to visit in Spring
Not only was I delighted to accept the opportunity to share some of Lisbon’s finest places, but, because I always want to surprise people, I´ve created a different Top 10 with a difference. Because the city is full of new things this post is divided in three areas: Terraces and Rooftops, Shopping Hotspots and Not To Be Missed Places.
Let´s start with the Not To Be Missed places for this spring. The first place is obviously the very creative and always surprising LX Factory in Alcântara (where Canela first set up their PR office in 2010), because of its capacity to be very cool and quiet even though is full of creative people. The second place I suggest is my favorite barber shop– the Purista. While you drink a gin in a very sartorial environment, we men, give ourselves, one of the best pampers you can get in Lisbon – to have a shave at very trendy and exclusive bar. Last but not least we couldn’t leave aside a Lisbon classic – Faia Bar. Located in the heart of Bairro Alto, this small bar, all in wood, and with tables and chairs (really rare in Bairro Alto), is where it is possible to hear from Sinatra to Bieber, and Queen or Depeche Mode. This is our recommendation for an authentic experience of one of the more interesting and amazing areas of the city….and everybody visiting Lisbon must know about it.
And if I’ve already mentioned three of my favourite places, now it is time to suggest the “must go to and shop places”. The first one is the colorful and well furnished This and That. This very secret shop just reopened in Travessa do Ferragial, in the heart of Chiado. Here you can find some of the best Portuguese design pieces and everything you need including for smaller budgets … but always with quality trade mark. Going down the street a little there´s another “must go and shop” place – Loja das Conservas. This store was created by the Canned Fish Food National Industries Association and gathers all the references of canned fish food products made by their members … even those made exclusively for exports … and therefore can only be found abroad. This way only here it´s possible to find cans especially made for the French, South Korean or Argentinean markets again with competitive prices and delicious promises. Last but not the least we have not one, but four shops … all gathered in less than 100m at Principe Real area: the stores of four Portuguese fashion designers – Nuno Gama, Lidja Kolovrat, Ricardo Preto and Alexandra Moura. Here not only will you find some of the best fashion collections made in Portugal … but also a little bit of everything that gathers the best national talent (design, music, books, etc.) …. and this is shopping with lots of style!

We´re still missing one of the best things to do during springtime in Lisbon, sit on a sunny and very cool terrace, with breathtaking views. In a city where flat areas are rare, what every visitor needs is a terrace with a view, a “Miradouro” (a high place with great viewpoints) and we have some amazing ones. So we must start with the eternal Noobai. Inside Santa Catarina´s area this place has one of the more secret and yet more interesting views of Lisbon. As the years pass by, the staff smile and constant kindness (even when they tell you they have no table for you … they do it on a nice way … you can’t get cross with them … believe me), and the quality of the food (a fusion between Portuguese and World cuisines) remains the same. But if Noobai takes the first place the second goes to the very modern À Margem. Located between the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Torre de Belém, this little white oasis has one of the best sunset angles, right next to the river, where colors assault you without any filter as they change the river´s tones … and with an excellent bar service, of course.

And if the terraces are Lisbon´s characteristic the roof tops movement has also earned a place in our selection. We begin with the so cool Topo, right in Martim Moniz. Placed on top of a very alternative shopping center (don’t be afraid to go in … it looks really awful at the mall’s entrance … but I promise that on Top … it’s all a different thing) this cool and tiny esplanade has one of the most spectacular views. Because this is a very trendy place to go now, we suggest you to go there in less crowded hours because the quietness of it and the possibility to be relaxed and as the space is still empty are two things not to be missed. Another recent roof top that has an amazing decoration, view and service is Rio Maravilha. This pearl is in LxFactory’s main building top and only a few people have discovered yet but it deserves a visit to a sunset / night cocktail or even to dinner.

Three must go places, three shop ‘till you drop addresses (one is actually 4 stores…we couldn´t resist), two terraces and two roof tops sum up of Top 10 for this season. To our readers, ECCO Network members here and all Lisbon´s visitors: if you follow our suggestions we guarantee a stylish and totally Lisbonner spring experience!
