We have here again one of our favorite sections, “Getting to know the Canela team”, in which our colleagues are sharing their memories, ideas, experiences and anecdotes of this crazy world of communication. Today is the turn of Milena Ivanovic, Senior Account Executive in the Barcelona office.
Getting to know Milena Ivanovic
Name and surname: Milena Ivanovic
Office: Canela Barcelona
Clients you have worked with: Rakuten, FreedomPop, Finanzarel, Clínica Liberty, Petcurean, Mascoteros, Vivabox, HousingAnywhere, Ricoh, Planet, Storytel.
How many years of work experience have you had after university? 6
You are native from…
I am from Serbia, but I have been living in Barcelona for 9 years. And I came for just one year!
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Curious, analytical, (self) critical. A walking contradiction.
How do you see the present and the future of communication?
Like a maremágnum that gives many opportunities, but that also gives a lot of room for manipulation. Therefore, public relations professionals should aim at an intelligent use of platforms and promote communication that integrates socially responsible ideas with a human value.
¿Any funny anecdotes you want to tell us about this crazy world of communication?
All my anecdotes have to do, paradoxically, with the lack of communication due to linguistic “incompetence”. Living and working in languages that are not my native is a huge advantage because it is a constant challenge, there is always a new word or phrase to learn. But it also has its funny part, especially talking on the phone.
Are you active in social media? What is your favorite platform?
I am an active observer of social media, but a passive user. LinkedIn and Academia.edu are perhaps my favorite because they contribute more, both professionally and personally, for the type of content and information I can find there.
If you didn’t work in the world of communication, what other sector would you be interested in?
When I finished my degree in Spanish philology, I fled to the world of communication because being a teacher was what attracted me the least. But, by chance of life, I worked for a while as a teacher and, although I did not expect it, it was one of the best experiences of my life. Maybe at some point in the future I escape from communication to education. Who knows? Walking contradiction, as I said at the beginning.
What do you do when you’re not at Canela?
I’m in love with Barcelona, I’m a running addict, a lover of nature and healthy food, so my free time revolves a lot around these passions.
Who has inspired you in your life?
My parents, for their unconditional and infinite love and support, are my main inspiration. Also because they have built the foundations to always believe and trust in a value system based on continuous learning, tolerance and transparency.
What is you life motto?
Trust the process.
